Tomatillo and Herb Biscuits

Prep time: 20 minutes
Total time: 35 minutes

Baking powder biscuits can be just as delicious as yeasty biscuits in less than a quarter of the time! This classic baking powder biscuit recipe has a savory twist that pairs great with eggs or chili! 😉

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup butter or shortening
  • ¾ cup Winking Girl! Salsa of choice (I used Medium Tomatillo)
  • 1 TBSP sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Heat oven to 450°F.

In large bowl, mix the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt).
Cut in the shortening, using clean hands or a pastry blender until butter is fully incorporated and mixture is crumbly. Stir in salsa until the entire mixture is incorporated and doughy.

Lightly flour a pastry board or countertop and knead the dough for about a minute. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough until 1/2 inch thick. Use a knife or pastry cutter to cut the dough into 3 inch squares. Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.

Bake 12-14 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Serve warm.
